Mosaic sketch made today by me Gloria Poole Registered Nurse artist of Missouri who is gloria0817

This is the sketch of a not real man that I made trying to paint a mosaic. I love mosaics made with glass but I tried that and it was a disaster! I have real problems with balance at times and pieces of glass everywhere is too high risk for me. So, I tried to make mosaic with inktense. I saw a glass mosaic in an art book of a man who lived thousands of years ago, and I decided I would try to paint an image like a mosaic. So this is it. I was not sure how to proceed because with permanent ink once it is down,you cannot lift it back up the way you can with bits of glass. So, I decided it's no real risk to me if it doesn't resemble a human--I could try again. I drew a mosaic two other times I think--once of a crane in flight and one other that is in archives on a blog of mine somewhere. Copyrighted. I drew the tiny squares in graphite, then painted them with ink on brush. I signed it, photographed it, uploaded it and posted it to this blog of mine. Also, yesterday, I drew and painted an ethnic series #ethnicseries sketch for my collection I have created of those since 2006 and I put it on my http://gloriapoole-UK.livejournal.com.

Tropical sketches painted today by me Gloria Poole,RN,artist of Missouri who is gloria0817

This is my sketch I painted of a "south seas" beach and it is 9 x 12 inch size and I painted most of it with watercolor except the white foam on the waves, which is acrylic. I made this and signed this as is true of all art on this blog, and photographed it more than once, which is usual for me, and uploaded it and posted it to this blog of mine today 15th Sept 2015. I was born and raised in a coastal state [Georgia on the Atlantic Ocean] and I love the beach--any beach anywhere! Also, scroll to see my effort to paint using a technique called "pointillism" which is an image made with dots or very short lines arranged in a way to make an image appear. It's not a technique I try often. I think the sketch that follows is the 2nd sketch I made ever using pointillism technique.

This is my sketch of a tropical flower that grows in countries below the equator [ I think] where humidity and heat are extreme. I do not know if it grows in the U S but I have seen it in stores so think it is imported to United States. I do not know the name of it but I look at it every time I see it trying to remember how the lines on it appear. I made both of these last nite, or rather started them last nite and completed them this morning. That 2 step sketch is a frequent way I do things. Draw it, let it gel in my mind, then paint it later. That often helps me see my own mistakes better. this sketch is also in my 9 x 12 sketchbook and I painted it watercolors. I made this and signed this as is true of all art on this blog, and photographed it more than once, which is usual for me, and uploaded it and posted it to this blog of mine today 15th Sept 2015.

This is an abstract sketch I made yesterday. It has no particular meaning. I was trying to make the red shoes look like those wooden Dutch shoes only in red. Just for fun! I made this, signed it, photographed it, uploaded it and put it on this blog of mine, today 4 Sept 2015. I made, signed, photographed, and posted ALL art on this blog and on any blog of mine. I made this with watercolors and a paint brush on 9 x 12 paper in my sketchbook.Copyrighted.

This is another abstract that I made experimenting with how to make a "sun" look less traditional. The shapes in red and blue are sort of like that yin and yang symbol or as I remember it but was sort of intended to represent twins of different sexes. Other than that there is no particular meaning to this. I made this, signed it, photographed it more than once [as is often the case] and uploaded it and posted it today. I made it with inktense that I washed over with wet brush in places. It is also in my sketchbook of the moment. Copyrighted.

Encaustic wild flowers and turtle sketches made today by gloria0817/ Gloria Poole,RN, artist of/in Missouri

This is one of the encaustic sketches I made last night from 2:00 am to about 4:30am. It is 11 x 14 on paper. I am practicing again making art with wax [encaustic] using a soldering iron with a tiny palette knife attached. I made this, signed it, photographed it, uploaded it and posted it to this blog as is true of ALL on this blog of mine.

This is another of the encaustic sketches I made last nite during the nite. I was trying to make it look like the giant sea turtle just crawled out of ocean to sun on the shore. It is also 11x 14. Lobster baskets sketch made today by Gloria Poole,RN, artist of /in Missouri

This is the sketch of lobster baskets and a seaman's hut on the coast, and I drew this in pencil first. Scroll down one to see the drawing. Then I "painted" it with oil pastels for the hut and sky and ocean but re-drew the baskets with ink and inktense. I put a turpentine/oil wash with a brush over the "sky". Scroll down 2 and you will see the sort of critters these baskets catch. As always, I made this, signed it, photographed it more than once, uploaded it and posted it to this blog of mine; and that is true for all art on this blog. Remember that I moved to Missouri Oct 31, 2009 and still live in Missouri but I own some land in state of Georgia.

This is the pencil drawing I drew and re-drew several times trying to get correct perspective on the baskets, then sorta decided it would have to do for now. I signed this also first in pencil then re-signed it when I "painted" it. I photographed it to document it then uploaded it and posted it.

This is my ink drawing of a lobster which my youngest daughter Leigh, when she was little and went on a cruise, described as a "Giaaaaaant bug!" I also posted a different photo of this ink drawing to another blog of mine. I am posting it here so viewers can see what goes in the basket. The men and women who catch lobsters for sale to restaurants set those baskets on the ocean floor with the door of them open and they tie some sort of bait to the bottom of the basket. The lobsters smell and see the food but don't know it's a trap, and crawl in to get the food and the door closes on them. Blue-winged teal duck sketch made today by Gloria Poole,RN, artist of / in Missouri

This sketch that I made late yesterday on 1st of August is of a "blue-winged teal" duck. Amazingly they also come in green-winged teal flavor. I saw a tiny thumbnail photo in a Conservationist magazine and I drew from it. It is not precisely as ducks look, just sort of. It's a sketch and even if it were an oil painting, artists including me as amateur as I am, often make their own version of anything. I drew it, painted it, signed it, photographed it, and uploaded it to this blog of mine. I have a fondness for ducks ever since my then-2-year-old-grandson chased a duck right into the lake and the duck took flight as his feet touched the water, and my tiny tot grandson had the most incredulous look on his face, as if to say "did you see THAT?", and I grabbed my grandson before he fell into the lake chasing the duck. But even before that when I lived in Augusta, Georgia, my house {during first marriage] was walking distance to a lake that had a family of ducks and I would put my baby in stroller and stroll to the lake and we would watch the ducks and feed them bread. So yea! I love to draw them. And to watch them. This is in my 9 x 12 sketchbook and is inktense and wash of water, then a bit more inktense and a bit of acrylic.
