Photo of what I did this past Saturday by Gloria Poole,RN,artist of Missouri

This is my photo of "Chuck E " I photographed at "Chuck E Cheese" pizza and game room on 28 Feb 2015. I was invited there with my youngest daughter Leigh [who is grown and her tots] and so I went along. It was all overwhelming--the flashing neon lights, multitude of colors, loud noises [games] gave me a major HEADACHE. So, I went to the part of restaurant reserved for birthday parties since it was empty. My grand-daughter who is 2 came and joined me. Her brother who is four was riding the "horse". She was mesmerized by that "Check E" and asked me what it was? And I said a giant toy that plugs into the wall like your TV. That seemed to satisfy her. When I asked if she wanted me to go with her to hold her so she could touch it, she looked at me with a sort of horrified look on her face and shook her head. I realized she was sort of afraid of it. I sometimes try to remember what being 2 felt like--being 2 feet tall and seeing everyone's knees or shin bones and having to climb on something else to get to the table or anything. So, I realized a nine foot tall animated "mouse" could probably be really terrifying up-close and personal. She just sat on bench and stared at it for about 10 minutes then went back to ride in the teacup. I think that was probably the only time I will be at Chuck E's since my head didn't stop hurting til I got home, and closed out the noise, lights, neon, etc. It's an overwhelming experience for me but I have had concussions and do not have "normal" neurons in my brain now. I am mostly posting this here so my daughter can show it to them if she wants, and discuss it with them. I remembered when my oldest daughter Jennifer was two, our neighbor dressed up as Santa Claus and came over to our house [during my first marriage] and brought her a toy dressed as Santa. Well. Jennifer was fascinated until A.P. walked over to hand her the gift. When that red furried arm reached toward Jennifer she drew back and let out a blood-curdling scream, and shocked all of us. I was absolutely shocked by her reaction. I kept saying "Jennifer, it's A.P. our neighbor dressed up as Santa". That didn't make one iota of difference. Jennifer screamed until A.P. left! It was a total embarrassment but I couldn't really fault either of them. Jennifer had never even seen a photo of "Santa" and A.P. thought she was doing a kindness for a child. So, I remembered all of that on Saturday with my granddaughter who is age 2 now, and who looked at me as if I had lost my mind when I asked her if she wanted to touch "Chuck E".
