This is a sketch of a shoreline with granite instead of a beach and an overcast day. I have not tried to paint an overcast day before. I have tried to paint stormy skies however. This is 8 x 11 on paper with inktense and acrylic.
This is my second attempt in two days to paint with pigment mixed with soft wax. That is called encaustic in art history books. It's a fun technique because it creates textures naturally. I painted with a palette knife since I didn't want wax on my brushes. There is an entire set of tools for creating encaustic paintings that include an electrical hot plate sort of palette to melt wax and a wax melting pen which is also electrical. And wax with the pigment already in it that is commercial product. But I was mixing the soft wax of a candle on a separate palette with pure pigment to make the "paints". They are not liquid in this case but soft, sort of like wax from a candle when it has just melted and cooling. It's not a great sketch because I am not skilled at painting with a palette knife.
